If you don't have a job you can take with you or if you didn't hit the lottery, your going to need to find a way to make a living while on the road. Most jobs are seasonal and are either farming, amusement parks, volunteering, workamping, selling fireworks, pumpkins, or Christmas trees. If you have a skill or a trade, your best bet would be to look for a temporary job in your field, in the area you want to see and explore. Or try to find a way to make money off of your hobby. If you like to make things you might want to consider becoming a vendor at fairs and craft shows.
